Owens River - Lower Section

Location and Directions:

The lower section of the Owens River runs from Pleasant Valley Reservior, across the northern edge of Bishop, and then parallel along CA hwy. 395 south. 37°13'09.4"N 118°17'23.9"W

General Info:

    The river is open year round for fishing, camping, hiking and boating. Parking is found along the many bridges that cross the river or if you have 4WD, there are many dirt roads along both sides that will take you to more remote areas.


Camping Info:

    Camping is available in the flats below Pleasant Valley Reservoir dam. No hookups.

Fishing Info:

    The river is stocked regularly with rainbow trout by the CDFW. There are also brown trout and largemouth bass here. The Northern section of the river from below PVR dam to 5 Bridges Rd. is designated a "wild trout" section. Anglers may catch and release only using artificial lures with barbless hooks. Be sure to visit the CDFW web site for complete regulations before heading out.



Comments and Tips:

     Use bug repellant! There are a lot of ticks in this area.
