Location and Directions:
El Capitan Lake is located in San Diego County, near the city of Lakeside. From San Diego, take Int. 8 East. Exit Lake Jennings Rd. (67) North and then turn right (East) on El Monte Rd. Travel East on El Monte 8 miles to the lake.

General Info:
El Capitan lake consists of 1,574 surface acres and has over 20 miles of shoreline. It is set at an elevation of 714 feet. Entrance fees are $8 for adults and $2.50 for youths 8-15. Tha lake is open as follows: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday: fishing and general boating, no water contact activities
Sunday: fishing, general boating and water contact (water-skiing, wakeboarding, jetskiing, etc.)
Tuesday and Wednesday: closed

Boating Info:
They have a nice launch ramp and rental boats are available. Launch fee is $7. Float-tubing is permitted. Use of float tubes is restricted to within 150 feet or less from shore. Float tubers must wear chest waders and have a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device readily available at all times, and have 144 square inches of international orange visible at least 12 inches above the water line. They must also possess a horn or whistle to warn approaching craft. Any float tube that uses oars or has a motor must purchase a private boat use permit for $5.00.
Fishing Info:
The lake holds some pretty healthy fish. Florida-strain Largemouth Bass usually run pretty good sized in fact it's rare to catch a small one here. There's lot's of Channel and Blue cats here too. The Blues average 3-5 pounds with 12 pounders not uncommon! Lots of Bluegill and Crappie get pretty big here too. There is a 15 inch minimum on the Bass. Be sure to visit the CDFW web site for complete regulations before heading out.
