Mead Reservoir

Location and Directions:

     Lake Mead is located approximately 25 miles east of Las Vegas on the Arizona/Nevada border. From Las Vegas take Route 95 south.


General Info:

    The lake has approximately 250 square miles of surface area and 550 miles of shoreline at capacity. It rests at an elevation of 1,200 feet and has a maximum depth of 589 feet. There are numerous campsites and recreational areas located around the lake. Water activities include swimming, boating, water skiing, rafting, diving, and fishing. Camping Info:

    There are many campgrounds around the lake.


  • - Boulder Beach Recreation Area : 1.5 miles north of the marina on Lakeshore Dr. 150 sites, no hookups. $10 /night. First come first serve, no reservations.
  • - Lakeshore Trailer Village : Next to Boulder Recreation area. RV sites with full hookups. Reservations : (702) 293-2540
  • - Callville Bay Recreation Area : North shore of the lake near Callville Bay Marina. 80 sites, no hookups. $10 /night. First come first serve, no reservations.
  • - Callville Bay RV Park : Five full hook-up spaces are available for $22.00 a night. 702-565-8958.
  • - Echo Bay Recreation Area : Two large NPS campgrounds. 166 sites, no hookups. $10 /night. First come first serve, no reservations.
  • - Las Vegas Bay Recreation Area : 154 sites, no hookups. $10 /night. First come first serve, no reservations.
  • - Temple Bar Recreation Area : 153 sites, no hookups. $10 /night. First come first serve, no reservations.

Boating Info:

    More than a dozen launch ramps are located around the lake.


Fishing Info:

    This is an excellent fishing lake and holds healthy populations of Striped and Largemouth Bass, Catfish, and Panfish. There are also lots of Carp and a few Trout in here. Every year, several Bass tournements are held here including B.A.S.S. Open.

Comments and Tips:

    Favorite spots usually by callville bay, and echo bay area's, for trout is usually at the willow beach on the az side on the other side of the dam, also some big stripers, water temps there is usually in the mid to high 50's.
