Headed out of Oxnard Sunday with Rich and Fat Joe. Game plan was to fish the east end of Santa Cruise for sea bass and finish up with rock fish. Got a late start around six, we passed on getting any live bait since we had seven pounds of fresh dead squid. The weather was dead flat calm with about a mile viability with lots of bait in the channel. Got to the east end to find it a parking lot on the water. Fished outside the kelp and around the armada of boats for three hours for one little rock fish to show. Did see a nice school of barracuda but could not get them to chew.

It was about ten or so so I decided to fish a bank off Santa cruse and anacapa called the 47 high spot. Got some nice fish on that spot. I was fishing a fake lucanus jig and did very well on it all day, not bad for four bucks. While we were there some boils popped up and I threw my surface iron and got slammed. Felt like a better fish I had him on 30lb and he was taking drag. Ended up popping off at color, I think it was yt but will never know. A couple boats moved in on us at this spot so we went and fished a ridge behind Anacapa.

This spot went very deep1000+' to about 450' then went to about 320' ft to about 230'. The fish were stacked around the 320' point. Fished there to finish out rockfish limit. I ended up getting my first legal ling on my boat that went 30" at this spot. Fought good on the light setup. Rich wanted to try and get a ling so we stayed on this spot so he could drop a trap hooked sand dab down. I ended up throwing iron randomly while rich was trying for a ling and I ended up bringing in a nice bonnie to the boat.

Well Rich had no luck on a ling and Joe pulled an all nighter so we decided to head back. Calm sea's all the way home. I ended up meeting Red Drum, Jscrib and Dean at the boat ramp nice to meet you guys. DFG was also checking fish so make sure you know the regs.
