BigRed and I met at 4pm 7-8-08 and headed down to Dana Point to shoot out to the 209 and try for some tuna. Got to Dana point and started filling up the boat with fuel (for 50 cents more per gallon than at home ) and decided to keep going down to San Diego and try in Mexican waters because of all the Bonito around 209.
Called Sansou while driving through Oceanside to see if he wanted to join us, but he already had plans to go out on a Long range boat the next day... How did it go Rich?
Got to Mission at 9pm and purchased our Mex fishing permits then put the boat in the water and set up all the tackle. After we stopped by the bait receiver we where on our way at 11:45pm with the plan of running down to the 295.
Arrived just before grey light and started trolling / looking for a temp break. We trolled for a couple hours, half asleep, ending up at the 270. Still nada, so we headed south another 10 miles and BANG! As soon as we crossed the 67.8 to 68.3 break, we hooked up on the troll. Turned around and did it again. They where loving the Black/Blue/Silver fish traps w/ dark blue lead heads. We got a couple to the boat and lost alot more due to short bites.
Started heading back North around noon, chasing the "tuna wrangler" planes. didn't produce any thing for us though. Hit some Paddy's for nothing. Saw a bunch of mammals, but no luck there either.
I set the AP and speed for BigRed around 3pm and passed out. Woke up at dusk rite out side the marina.
Great trip, perfect weather, just wish we had another day down there... too long of a trip with no sleep.
Here are some pics:
