Location and Directions:
El Capitan Lake is located in San Diego County, near the city of Lakeside. From San Diego, take Int. 8 East. Exit Lake Jennings Rd. (67) North and then turn right (East) on El Monte Rd. Travel East on El Monte 8 miles to the lake.
General Info:
El Capitan lake consists of 1,574 surface acres and has over 20 miles of shoreline. It is set at an elevation of 714 feet. The lake is open all year. Feb. to Sept. it is open on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays and Holidays. Oct. to Jan. it is open on weekends and holidays only. Boating Info:
They have a nice launch ramp fo $5 a day and rental boats are available for $25 per day (reservations: (619) 390-0222).
Fishing Info:
The lake holds some pretty healthy fish. Florida-strain Largemouth Bass usually run pretty good sized in fact it's rare to catch a small one here. There's lot's of Channel and Blue cats here too. The Blues average 3-5 pounds with 12 pounders not uncommon! Lots of Bluegill and Crappie get pretty big here too. There is a 15 inch minimum on the Bass.
