Location and Directions:
Barret Lake is located near San Diego off of Int. 8. From San Diego, take Int 8 east for 30 miles to Japutal Road. Go south 5.5 miles to Lyons Valley road and turn left. Travel 6 miles to MM12. There will be a small gate on your left. Turn here and travel 3.5 mile to the lake.
General Info:
Barrett Lake consists of 811 surface acres at capacity. It is open 5 am to sunset Wed, Sat and Sun. for fishing by permit only. Anglers must make a reservation to fish through Ticketmaster for $40 plus their fees, and then in addition pay $10 per person at the lake for a fishing permit. No camping is available. Boating Info:
No motorized private boats are allowed at Barrett. Float tubes, canoes, and kayaks are permitted, but you still need a reservation. Rental boats are 14 feet long and come with 5.0 HP motors. Fishing Info:
This is one of the hottest bass fishing lakes in California, probably the best in the US. Here's why. Each day it's open only 100 anglers are allowed to fish it. (25, 4-man parties) There is a strict Catch and Release policy on the largemouths. For these reasons there is an extremely healthy population of fish here. Anglers have reported catching over 100 quality fish per day with 20+ fish days not uncommon. No live bait is allowed and all lures must have barbless hooks.
