Location and Directions:

The Stanislaus River (upper section - North, Middle, & South forks) is located on the borders of Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. It runs in-between highways 4 and 108 in the Stanislaus National Forest. From Stockton in Central California, take hwy. 4 East to Angels Camp. Continue NE on hwy. 4 for the North fork, or go South on hwy. 49 and then East on 108 for the Middle and South forks.

General Info:

The North fork is popular with whitewater rafters from Big Trees and up. Camping is available at many locations including: Big Trees State Park, Wild River (near Board's Crossing), Beardsley lake, and Pincrest, to name a few. Visit the Stanislaus National Forest Website for more information. (209) 795-1381

Fishing Info:

The fishing season starts the last Saturday of April and ends on November 15. Rainbow trout are stocked regularly by the DFG. There are also brook and brown trout here. High run-offs in the Spring can make fishing difficult here. Best July - Sept.
