  New Hogan Res.

Location and Directions:

New Hogan Lake is located in Calaveras County approx. 35 miles northeast of Stockton, CA. From Stockton, take hwy CA-26 east 25 miles to Silver Rapids Rd. Turn right and then another right on Hogan Dam Rd.

General Info:

New Hogan Lake consists of 4,400 acres and 50 miles of shoreline set at an elevation of 713 feet. There are several campgrounds located around the lake offering both RV and tent camping.

Boating Info:

There are two launch ramps available. New Hogan no longer has a marina or docks. It has all been completely dismantled and removed.

Fishing Info:

There are rainbow and brown trout, striped bass, small and largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill and catfish here.

17-year-old James Puricelli caught this lake record 31.5 pound striped bass from New Hogan Res.

Comments and Tips:

The trout are long gone; the stripers made snacks of them long ago. I understand that the stripers were planted by the state because the trout did not do well due to fluctuating levels and warm water. The stripers have done very well.

The stripers are so abundant in the lake that it is one of just three lakes in the whole state that has no size limit on them and the limit is ten instead of two as is the limit in the state.
