Fishing Info:
The fishing season starts the last Saturday of April and ends on November 15. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout by both DFG and Alper's Ranch hatcheries. There are also a few brown, brook and cutthroat trout in here too. Be sure to visit the CDFW web site for complete regulations before heading out.
Comments and Tips:
I have been fishing the mammoth Lakes area for over 50 years and many a day was at Mary. In the old days we caught most of our trout on red salmon eggs and worms. Then a marshmellow was added to the worm. Spinners and super dupers where the lures. I have spent so many wonderful days fishing there with my family, friends and people I meet along the way. I can say the best thing my Dad ever did for me was taking me fishing(with my brother) at Lake Mary and staying in a cabin in the late 50's. I still feel like a kid when I make plans to visit the Eastern Sierras! Some day (not for long while) i will have my ashes put to rest there.
Good fishing to all,
Paulie from Santee Calif.
Went fishing at Lake Mary on August 25 and caught limits of planters. Long leaders up to 4-feet and drifting near the bottom seemed to work. Inflated nightcrawlers were the best bait but caught fish on power bait. Fish were deep 35 to 40 feet.
