Loveland Lake

Location and Directions:

     Loveland Res. is located near the city of San Diego. From San Diego take I-8 East to Tavern Rd. exit. Go South on Tavern Rd. It turns into Japatul. Continue on Japatul Rd. Once you pass Sequan Truck Trail, the parking lot will be on your right.

General Info:

    Access to the lake is only available by foot down a steep trail. There are no facilities. Boating and body-contact with the water is not allowed. The lake is open for day use only. Loveland Res. was constructed in 1945 but has only been open to the public since 1997.

Fishing Info:

    There are largemouth bass, catfish, bluegill and red-ear sunfish here. Only shore fishing is allowed and only in designated areas. There is a small fishing pier at the end of the trail from the parking lot. Be sure to visit the CDFW web site for complete regulations before heading out.

Comments and Tips:

     Bring water and supplies with you. Also, watch out for rattlesnakes on the trail.

     All of the fish here are wild and there is no stocking program. Please practice catch and release to insure our fishing future.
