Location and Directions:
The Upper Kern River drains into Lake Isabella on the north side of the lake. From hwy. 178 at Lake Isabella, take Wofford Heights Blvd. North to Wofford Heights. It turns into Burlando Rd. and the river will be on your right.
The river is open year round. Activities include fishing, camping, whitewater rafting, hiking and mountain biking. Note: The river currents are swift and rapid. Deaths occur every year. Please use caution when near or on the water.
There are several camp sites along the river.
- Camp Three : 52 paved sites and a group camp that accommodates up to 30 people for friends or family gatherings. No electric hookups.
- MRA Campground : 34 sites. No electric hookups. They also offer whitewater rafting.
- Rivernook Campground : RV and tent sites available.

Rainbow trout are planted by the CDFW. There are also wild rainbows and brown trout here. Be sure to visit the CDFW web site for complete regulations before heading out.
