ALWAYS BRING A JACKET TO THE LAKE!

SLOW DOWN – THE DEER ARE ON THE MOVE!!!

Quite a bit of wetness at the Lake this past week and still more to come. Today, (Monday), we’re right at snow level – a little bit of rain – a little bit of snow and it looks like the rain or at periodic showers thru Wednesday. A couple non-wet days and then a bit more moisture on Saturday. SO PACK YOUR WOOLIES AND RAIN GEAR! Sunday looks to be clear and a bit warmer.

Rick’s working hard to have the whole fleet ready to go for this weekend. NightCrawler, PowerBait, Salmon Eggs, Jigs, and Thomas Buoyants are still catch the limits. DingleBerry Inlet is still one of the hot spots along with the area in front of the Dam by the outlet. Should be getting another DFW stocking this week.

Local Chris Gaskill caught an early morning 2-1/2lbs Rainbow using a Thomas Buoyant. It was Ray Escarzega’s week – not only did he land a 2-1/2 pounder on a Rapala, he came back a couple days later and pulled in a 3-3/4 pound Rainbow also on a Rapala. His friend Chris remarked “It was amazing – wide open trolling all over the Lake.”

Just an FYI – all fisherpeople need to have their own stringers and up to five fish per stringer.

Had a chance to take a drive up to South Lake – lots of snow in their back country. Their Lake is up just as high as ours – you can launch from their ramp. Saw a hiking report that there is some snow on the trail to Long Lake, then persistent snow from there on out up toward Bishop Pass.

We think it’s a juvenile bald eagle that’s been flying and then swooping in for a fish. And either MaMa or PaPa Bald Eagle has been teaching him how to fight (at least that’s what we’re hoping), but it is truly a sight to behold watch two birds that big in the sky.

A chance for snow showers, rain showers, some light breezes and thunderboomers – yup, Mom’s throwing all of it at us. Temps dip to the mid 40s Monday with the chance of snow showers. Tuesday temps rebound and we’ve got the rain and thunderboomers coming at us and don’t forget the breezes that always seem to accompany thunderboomers. Temps just keep going up to end up in the high 50s on Saturday for highs and in the mid 30s for lows. You can check out the forecast for the week at www.weather.gov (enter Aspendell, CA in the search and scroll down to see the temps).

And the hiking conditions:
With the new snow this week, not really sure what to tell you about hiking conditions. Heard the George Creek crossing was a bit on the treacherous side and once you go out of sight of Lake Sabrina you’re in snow – whether it be walking on hard packed icy snow in the early morning or post-holing in snow in the afternoon – PLEASE BE PREPARED FOR ALL CONDITIONS.

Things to do when you’re not at the Lake:

Important stuff that just stays in the report for a bit:
People, sure would be nice if y’all would pick up your trash when you leave. It’s really not that hard. Just sayin! If you need something to put it in, come into the store and we’ll give you a bag.

If you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.

If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And please hike with a buddy!

When using the bug juice or hand sanitizer or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like any of that foo-foo stuff. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands.

Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the water and snow will do a number on your skin and eyeballs!
