3.21.15 Lip RipperZ / BIG 5 Trout Tournament at Santa Ana River Lakes

This month’s Lip RipperZ Tourney featured a $20 Buy in (100% payout), with 50% going to Top 3 big fish and 10 blind bogey prizes, and raffle, giving away big prizes from Big 5, Lip RipperZ, Shimano, Pautzke, Trout Slayers, Panther Martin and a $300 Sea Eagle Kayak. All kids in attendance, as always during Lip RipperZ events, took home their very own Star Wars fishing poles free just for attending.

News of a 20 pounder being stocked just for this event was quite the buzz In Southern California leading up to the event. “We stocked a 20 pounder into the big lake, a fish that if caught could be one of the top 5 trout caught in the state this year. But good luck reeling it in, it’s a monster.” –Bryan Friedman, Lip RipperZ CEO.
More than 6 big fish were reported lost during the event and unable to reel in. Including one fish that was fought for 20 minutes before the anglers line snapped. A high probability of being the 20 pound behemoth previously stocked. This monster shall live for another day.

The first big fish to hit the scales was by Crystal Cerda, and took an early lead in the event with a 7lb 12 ounce lightning trout. As if they had been hooked and netted that the same time, a second fish quickly followed right after, weighing in at 7lbs 13oz by Pedro Garban. A fish that would ultimately steal second place by only one ounce. The highlight of the day, and big fish of the day, was caught by youngster Alex Guerreo, who proudly showed off his tournament winning Lightning Trout weighing in a 9lbs 13oz. “Out of all of the Lip RipperZ events thrown this year, this was by far the most rewarding. Seeing this youngster outfish all of the adults with his big fish was quite the surprise and so cool to see. We’re seeing more and more families come out to our events, and its good to see the kids starting to win some of the major prizes.” – Chelsea Haves, Lip RipperZ Office Manager. Each of the top 3 big fish winners took home some serious cash.

Blind Bogey and Raffle prizes were given out next. Each of the 10 Blind Bogey winners took home a cool $60, which were randomly chosen. Quickly followed by raffle prizes which were given out in handfuls with the majority of anglers in attendance walking away with $20-$300 in prizes packages. Highlight of the raffle went Jose Barba, who walked away with his very own Sea Eagle Kayak, a kayak value at more than $300.
