Yes he survived and continued fishing the lake after he healed up. When I met him he told me the story, showed me his stomach and introduced me to the park ranger that caught the guy. The shooter had caught the LMB and was going to keep it, the victom tried to explain reasons why he should release it is how it started.

yes sir, sometimes it doesn't take much for some to resort to the extreme. i have seen violence erupt for the most trivial things, well at least that's the way it seemed to me... i guess there could have been some underlying dispute that i didn't know about.
