    Default 2015 Opener Report

Worked full day Friday, Loaded up the camper and headed out of OC around 630 PM> Just my 3 year old son and I. My nephew was already up in Lone Pine fishing for a couple days. I had been giving him areas to try and he would send me fotos. Sort of cruel and unusual punishment. He was fishing my spots and I was working . WTF (Why The Face)
Drove all night. Made it to Lone Pine around 10:30PM. Hooked up with my nephew and his buddy and headed for Bishop. Made it to Intake II around 1 AM. Tried to get a few fish before heading for the creeks, The wind was screaming. Just a light snow blowing off the hill. Could only see it if you shined a light. Too hard to keep you lines in the water. Gave up after an hour (or more). Took off for one of the honey holes on Bishop Creek. Parked and jumped into the camper for a little nap. Tried fishing around 530AM, with a light snow. Winds were much lighter. Caught 3 fish within 10 casts. Stopped fishing and waited for my boy to wake up. Didn't want to fish out this hole. I wanted my son to have a crack at them. Had a couple guys that came up and wanted to fish the fish the one productive pool. I assumed my fishing position and waited for them to move on. Snow was getting heavier. Finally got my boy up and dressed for snow.
I have my GoPro setup so we could film some underwater action. Bite dropped off significantly. Managed a couple more but my boy didn't want any part of it. Lack of sleep and freezing temps were taking affect. We did make " Olaf ". That seemed to lift his spirits.

ID:	46160 Yes that is a terrible attempt at a snowman,. Snow was too light and would stick together.

My nephew and his buddy finally got out of their truck and pulled in a few rainbows. The buddy pulled a 2# brown on power bait. Beginners luck. Fish was released. Don't know if DFG is planting browns. But I have caught literally hundreds of fish from this pool with only some small browns (6-10 inch). I cant see this small pool being able to support that size of a fish.

Snow started to dump. Buddy was getting nervous because he was in a 2WD Tacoma. I was in a diesel Silverado 4WD.

We headed for lower elevation. Checked a few pools on the South Fork and only saw a few fish. Fish numbers were way down.
Checked out Baker Creek. Too crowded.
Tried Taboose creek for a couple. Very crowded. Still windy .
Independence Sand Trap. Couple more. Screaming winds. Got sand blasted. Boy was crying
Called it a day and ended back to camp in Lone Pine.

Overall: Poor. Partly because of the conditions. If I had been alone, I could have done much better. Cold weather wont stop me. Looks like a will do more bush whacking this season. Road side fishing may be tougher than usual.

WIth all the extra open water, I was expecting DFG to dump fish everywhere (heavy). Slim pickings.

    No fish porn.

Nice to see your little guy out there. Gotta start them early..:).
I remember bringing my boys out there at that age...my how time fly's by. Enjoy those moment while you can...less the crying of coarse...lol
Sorry to see the slim pickens, but glad you caught a few. I'm sure you'll get them next time.
Can't wait for my turn. Heading up to the loop for a week June 19th-26th.
