    Thanks for all the info guys. Im thinking about going to Irvine lake sunday and fishing from the shore, but I have no idea where the catfish shore hotspots are

    why dont you just add 1/4-1/2 of a marshmallow along with your mealworm or shrimp? it works the same way by having it suspend in the water column

    Is it the jumbo marshmellow? Can I use that with mackerel also. I plan on going to Irvine this weekend and I was gonna take mackerel, night crawlers and chicken livers

    If you're going for big kitties marshmallows are usually out of the question.

    This is why I stress using a high/low rig!

    Whatever the case you need the bait OFF the bottom.

    Flylining is better than a c-rig. It allows catfish to bump the bait around more freely

    I was reading about Ronson Smothers and he uses Mackerel or Bonito chunks dipped in his sauce then
    Fly Lines with a spinning reel and leaves the bail open. Then he waits 20 seconds after getting bit to set the hook. The dude is the catfish king.
