Damn people, seasons about to close and there’s only been 1 page of reports for the entire year?? Everyone must be chasing that cow tuna....This one goes out to WM for keeping the forum alive with fly reports and pictures!!!!!!!!
Headed up the road with a buddy for our annual closer trip, Oct 8-12. This is by far my favorite time to fish up there with the cooler weather, fall colors, developed hatches, and the fish’s urge to beef up before winter.
Fished WELL south of Bishop all the way up to Bport, in temps ranging from mid 20's to 70's, for 7 different species of fish. Goldens, Cutts, Brookies, Browns, Bows, Kokanee, Sac perch and copious amounts of Lagunitas all fell victim. This was more of an exploratory mission with a few firsts for myself (kokanee and perch). There’s not much more rewarding than getting outta your comfort zone, trying something new, and being rewarded for your efforts. Happy to say all feesh were caught on barbless flies, many coming on home brews…balanced leechs and size 16-18 midges did the trick. Also got into an exciting muddler bite on the sinking line for a few hours on the gem
I got some go pro footage of spawning fish in 2 different tribs, but I can’t figure out how to post videos. This thread would have been titled the October octaslam, however the arrow didn’t stick in the carp (carp photo is from earlier this year). Sorry for the sideways pics (couldn't figure out how to rotate) and the $hitty perch photo, I had to take a photo of the labtop screen from go pro footage lol But none the less, any photo is better than no photos!!!!
If the weather cooperates, i might head back up b4 the 15th and hit a few specific lakes in search of Big Leroy....Tight lines and full tails!!!!! ENJOI!!!
