LOL This place never changes, I haven't looked at this web site in 3-5yrs and its still the same bs
any place is better then ca...….
It's rather ironic if you look at it this way. 9 or 10 years ago there was this big debate if Man made climate change was real. The Republicans said it wasn't real. The Democrats and the Scientist said it was real. In this debate, besides higher global temperatures the scientist said, there would be more forest fires (like we are having in California) and more extreme weather phenomenons. (like Hurricanes)
If you look at what we are doing in California to combat climate change. (it's worth taking notes on!) Now Nationally the Republicans hold all the power. What are they doing to combat climate change? NOTHING but making it worse!!!! (I'll hit the highlights only) 1. Pulled out of the Paris treaty. 2. Trying everything in their power to bring back coal! 3. De regulate as many regulations they can to make more profit at the expense of the environment. Trump even did a big one last week. Apparently Methane gas is far worse to the environment then co2. A big release of Methane gas comes from leaky oil rigs. President Obama shortened the inspection period from every 2 years to every 6 months on these oil rigs. Trump just put it back to every 2 years now.
Here's the irony of all this.
Hurricanes are more likely to hit in the Red states more then anywhere else. Texas, Louisiana, Florida and now the Carolina's. People are dying and Billions of dollars of property are being destroyed by these Hurricanes. Yet these people are voting in people who's policy's make this more a reality.
I'm sorry but Human nature is like this, if someone is playing around with their own gun and shoots themselves in the foot. (they will get some sympathy) But when an innocent person is pushing her baby in a stroller and is hit by random gunfire coming from a drive by shooter or a police officer. There is rioting in the street at the outrages act of needless violence. (see my point?)
p.s. Deve was such a big Trump supporter. He didn't just vote for the guy, he was a volunteer in working the out of state voters. Trump won the Electoral College by such a few votes in 3 key states. Deve himself can take a fair amount of credit for getting Trump elected. In helping get Donald Trump elected President. Deve also needs to take some of the blame for Trump's terrible environmental policy's. Which will lead to other natural disasters like huge Wild fires and Hurricanes. The mess he helped create, he can now get an up front seat to the environmental damage that he helped cause!
Elections do have consequences!!!

LMAO!
Having the 5th largest economy in the world means nothing. All it means is California has a huge population, it does not make it a successful economy hence California having the most people living below the poverty level in the nation. I saw lefty post that awhile back and thought a college instructor should truly know better but alas, we know truth doesn' doesn't matter to socialists whose philosophy is "the ends justify the means".
It's stunning that you read the threads here and make such a false statement about us. I'm not willing to get into it with you as you ignore reason. Also, Texas has a population almost 3/4 the size of California but has only about 60 percent as large. Similar sized states don't even do that well compared to us. Plus, a lot of our wealth is in the high tech sector, with a lot from agriculture, among others. So population size doesn't cut it when making your claims...
I read what you wrote and that's pretty easy to take apart.
You say California's economy only looks good because of it's large population. Let's look at the 4 bigger economy's of the world and see what their populations are. (they are in order)
1. China's population 1.4 Billion people.
2. Japan 127 million
3. Germany 82 million
4. India 1.3 Billion
5. California 40 million
In comparison to these other country's population, California's economy is still considered very successful! You can just throw out China and India with a population of over 1.3 Billion people. That's not even a fair comparison to make against California's 40 million people!
As for your poverty statement.
Did you turn into a Socialist????
Only a Socialist strives for fair income distribution. To a true Capitalist purist, you should never care about how many people are on the bottom. I remember asking you before, what about those people on the bottom? I even remember your answer because it was so harsh. I can't worry about that!!!
Now if you want to be like Switzerland which is a pure Socialistic country. Where you don't have very many Rich people or very many people at the poverty line. Everybody is more or less in the Middle. Is that what you want??? If it is, the only way to get there is through Socialism!
This is not the HawgZWylde I remembered! lol

Yea, when did you start caring about the poverty rate, Hawgz? Or believing that California is the world's most populous nation?
Since I don't know what earlier comment you are referring to, I cannot address it. I never said that California doesn't have too much poverty. We see it all the time around here. The causes of poverty are numerous but the main reason in the U.S. in my view comes down to unregulated capitalism and low taxes which cause massive wealth inequality -- and those are Republican backed policies. The U.S. has worse poverty than any other industrialized nation because of the greed that is allowed to prevail here. That it's so bad in California is a result mostly of people wanting to come here, raising the cost of living. Foreign investors are buying up houses and other properties in California, raising housing prices. My wife knows of many people such as this from her homeland of Taiwan in fact, Many poor immigrants come to California, while a lot of affluent people are leaving the state. But California also has better services than just about any other state.
Here is an article which compares poverty in the United States to other nations. https://www.epi.org/publication/ib33...ty-net-weaker/
