Yes, spinners cast far, most prefer baitcasters.
Love my Shimano Symetre 2500FJ $105 it's a smaller spinner reel but has landed
plenty of fish in 2011 Halibut (30" PB in the surf) Bonito, Macs, Croakers, Perch, LA River Carp too.
15 lb Braid & Flouro leader. Been dipped in SW a couple times too. Don't even rinse it off most of the time
and still works great with over 100 1 to 2 hour after work outings this year.

Spinners can be used to toss jigs
surface jigs , poppers, gliders, chuggers, splashers, walkers
and vertical jigs too, the east coast loves spinning reels
search introduction to vertical jigging to see some powerful reels,
rods, lines and jigs, for surface jigs gloves is a must, to prevent cuts
I like the Accurate 12 but it is out of my $ range
    west coast fisherman prefer conventionals,
light spool reels for surface jigs, and metal reels for yoyo jigs

X2 Eddie. West Coast don't like spinners ?
I go with the spinners from shore unless doing sharks.
Just picked up a used Torium 30 but use jigmaster/squidders 146, 501 narrows for live bait usually on the boat. Can't afford expensive gear. Look at all the big fish Jeremy Wade catches on spinners.

There are much better spinning reels out there, Just sold my 6500, and 3500 never realy cared much for them. Been looking at the okuma RAW spinning reels, but will most likely buy a stella sw.

    Tuna out
