    Hi TShaffer,

If you go during the middle of the week, be careful that whatever boat you choose looks like it has enough patrons to go. A lot of landings' 3/4's just ain't goin' out on a number of days a week.

Victory is pretty much a sure thing ... goes out with 3 or 4 at times.

Hi Ron, I remember you said you wrote to have the Sheephead the state fish to replace the Goldfish

I totally agree with you on that.

    Hi Dock Rat,

Thanks. Yes, I argued that the Garabaldi was OK but not a sportfish and that we could actually have a freshwater state fish of some kind, the 'Goldfish' as it is, and lastly the Sheephead as state 'sportfish'. The Yellowtail is a pelagic and just the homeguards hang around so those don't count !! ha ha

    Appreciate the readership,

    Hi supasportkid,

Thanks. Yes, those are the species of last resort as they are consistantly willing to bite plastic if one works hard enough.

thanks for the report JR. one questions thou, if you are out deep maybe over 100ft or more does your captain drop the anchor? or just drift. if you are drifting does your plastics ever hit the bottom? i want to learn how to fish the deep waters but im kinda clueless.
    thanks

    Hi BIG0FISH,

It's all about the bottom structure and wind/current conditions + where the fish are and what species. Really complicated at times !!

I have to say ... the skippers are more prone to drift deeper waters with hard-bottom above others. Drifting is often in 120 feet+ water.
