I'm just asking recreational fisherman to just have some consideration for life and species when they do what they do every weekend.

Take two yellowtail instead of five. 1 halibut instead of three. Use a net instead of a gaff and respect life instead of being killers who just want to overload their freezers and have so much fish they are donating it away to the neighborhood.

I think it's senseless slaughter and wanting to brag on the internet.

Oh well, you're giving the same excuse.... commercials do more harm.

If indeed that were the case, (which it isn't because there are so many PB'ers and sport boats doing the same thing every day which adds up-there have been studies shown that sport caught fish delete more fish stock for certain species than the commercials), does it make it right to excuse what you are doing because somebody else is doing it in much greater scale?

    I think not.

By the way I've been lurking this site as well as Allcoast.com since 2005 and I read most of the reports and see the same guys who go out every week and take home 20 to 50 fish every weekend. These are the guys who put up photo-esssays of their trip. They are vastly outnumbered by the guys who take an equal amount of fish but do not do the photo essay on the internet. One can only imagine. Take 2 yellowtail instead of five. Take 1 halibut instead of 3. 1 WSB instead of 3. Repeat every week. Chance are, you own some rods, own a boat, and enjoy the sport, the time you go fishing will not be your last time and especially in the peak season.

Let the fish live, to fight another day and to go make more fishies. That is not a hard thing to do.

    Sounds like bitching to me!!!!

If I ever fished the salt, or EVEN HAD the SKILLZ to catch limits on fish, you bet your sweet patootie i'm keeping my fish. My grandma loves her some fishhead soup!

My good friend and fishing partner just returned last week from fishing Alaska. Before he came back like he always does he went to the canneries to have his fish taken care of. He stated that allot of the commercial boaters were actually turned away because to many commercial boats have overwhelmed the canneries with WAAAAY to much fish. Goes to show why we can't even get any salmon fishing in California. So go figure Sam I Am.

After reading this I have a new passion in life now. I shall start to save the live's of the sardine's....by hooking onto one yellowtail at a time with a squid.

Those guys should not be insulted in any way. There were six people and they kept 24 fish (16 albacore, 6 yellowfin, 1 Dorado, and 1 Yellowtail), which is way under the limit for each of them. An individual can keep 10 albacore and 10 Bluefin in addition to the 20 other fish ( up to 10 of which can be any tuna besides albacore or bluefin) when fishing in California waters. In other words, each of these guys kept 10% of their possible daily limit of fish. Hardly over fishing if you look at the numbers, and, unlike people (SAMIAM), numbers are not influenced by personal bias.
When I go on a party boat fishing trip, I am going to keep most of what I catch because of the fact that I go on party boats so rarely due to money. More importantly, I really like eating what I catch. I will release most of the calicos I catch, but two or three will come home to make tacos. I will hopefully be able to bring home some tuna in a week when I go on my second ever overnighter. Yellowfin and dorado are my favorite fish to eat, so I will be filleting and freezing them. The only surf fish I keep are legal halibut because they taste good.
If I go fishing for largemouth bass, surf perch, corbina (one a summer comes home for tacos), or native trout I will release 99% of them. If they are bleeding and legal to keep they get kept.
What I am trying to get at is that it is ok to keep fish if: The fish are going to be eaten by people and you are not breaking any laws by keeping said fish.

I know that they kept a higher percent of their daily albacore limit, but I did not think it mattered.
