I just saw this thread. In those videos of the boats racing, I kept trying to slow down my 15 foot aluminum so Duc could take my pic, but it didn't work.

It can get a little nasty out in the channel in the fog. Just remember that Long beach and Seal beach are South facing. You can always take a 360 magnetic and get home. Just watch out for a big wall. Most of the year the swell comes from a bearing of 240-255 magnetic. That might help if your compass is broke.
