Small perch as bait for hali/shark? I always end up catching a lot of dinks.

The small perch are muy excelente for the big leos. I personally have had success stabbing them up a few times and then hooking them thru-and-thru the gut section with hook exposed. (sizes 3 to 3/0). Keep in mind leos don't have very big mouths. I've also noticed the perch tend to pick up the current a bit more than chunks of squid, so you may have to put on heavier weights to keep it from washing back on shore. I've also seen guys here in SD fillet a slab of fresh perch and use it with success. I'm of the opinion the leos are like catfish in that they'll pretty much eat any chunk bait.

ya perch work great for leos, and if u can get a small pregnant perch they work even better.
