Decided to give another try out on Newport harbor, since the last time was a
success. Got to the harbor around 9:30am. Launch off at the corner of
Balboa Blvd and Channel RD. It was a great day to be on the water. We
used mussels as bait, I like using mussel as bait because it everywhere and
it’s FREE! (I get cheap sometimes!) Caught the usually fish like last time,
Butter mouth perch and Rock Wrasse. My buddy Hung got a surprise and
landed a spotted Bass. Near the end of the day, when we are about to
leave, Hung decided one last cast and got a huge bite. After the long fight,
landed a Spotfin Croaker! This was a largest one I have seen.
Off the water by 2:00pm, the water started to get rocky

Talk to same locals about the bass and halibut, they said since the water been
cooling down, the bite has also slowed down. We didn’t catch as much as we
did last month, I guess they knew what they are talking about.

Type of fish caught:
Buttermouth Perch
Rock Wrasse
Spotted Bass
Spotfin Croaker
opaleye
