I just ordered this rod because i think it represents a missing piece of my arsenal. A shoreline medium to med/hwy all purpose rod. This model is a PNW favorite for fishing the PNW. My arsenal is fully equipped with rods lighter & heavier than this one. I've developed a taste for Okuma's GSP & SST spinning rods. After using them myself in WA State i know what they're capable of doing.
Specifically i think i can use this for shoreline plugging & jigging the shorelines of Hawaii for Jack Trevally & other species. I already got another 5K spinner i plan on spooling for this rod. Problem is the guides are slightly smaller than the website depicts. These zirconium guide inserts were meant for braid usage. So it's either 30lb braid or 15lb thin diameter monofilament.
I'm expecting a new reel release delivery next week so will look at the 2 reels & will make a decision. The other reel is a "deep" spool pitch black 4K spinner that'll hold as much line as a normal 5K average spinner. I'll be getting one of the 1st releases for this new reel. Max drag at 27lb so it should do ok considering the line it'll hold. Not a true science trying to mix & match your gear but it's still a science trying to make it work in your favor.
