Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We are credit/debit only, no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must obtain them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake offers half price motor boats to seniors (60+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.

To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Limits of trout continue to come out of the east end where the water is flowing into the lake. Anglers have been leaving each day with full stringers usually by mid- morning. A large number of trout went uncaught during the wet winter and mild spring temperatures have prolonged the season. They are catching them on inflated nightcrawlers, salmon, eggs, and hook-up bait.

Catfish can be found throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.

Crappie (sometimes in the high double digits) are being caught in the first couple of hours at the crappie float. Crappie respond best to mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. They will chase shad raps, frogs, crawdads. and dark colored plastics.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed on our scale. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
