Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We are credit/debit only, no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must obtain them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering half price motor boats to seniors (60+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

It has been a solid week of trout fishing with both numbers and size. Limits have been coming out of the east end of the lake near Willow Cove. Big fish of the week honors belonged to Rob Nelson of Valley Center who caught a 10.90# trout using green powerbait in Willow Cove. Other notable catches included; Cesar Resendiz’s 10.40#, Billy Serbic’s 10.20# Don Daughenbaugh’s 9.30#, Rex Blackmon’s 8.00#, Brian McAvinue’s 8.00#, and Mario Godinez’s 7.00# trout. The trout are currently hitting hook-up bait, powerbait (greens & yellows), and inflated nightcrawlers.

Largemouth Bass can be found lurking around structure. The bass are fond of swimbaits, crawdads, and dark colored plastics.

Catfish can be found throughout the lake, but bite particularly well at either end. Lake Wohlford cats prefer shrimp, mackerel, or chicken liver.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed in by a Wohlford Ranger on our scale. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
