Last Plant: 1,000 lbs. of Channel Catfish the week of July 24th to July 30th.


Next Plant: Trout in December.


Water temperature: At surface 76.10 f., 6.14 D.O. @ 15’ 76.82 f., 5.93 D.O.


Water level: Low level, private watercraft are currently banned.





Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We are credit/debit only, no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must obtain them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering half price motor boats to active military every Saturday.


In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.


Fall has arrived and with it the days have grown shorter, as a result, the lake is closing earlier and earlier. Please make note of the time changes and adjust your plans accordingly. We will re-open for weekday use at the beginning of trout season in mid-December.


Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.


Crappie can be caught in the early mornings or late afternoons. They prefer some cover in which to hide or can be found suspended in deeper water. They are most often caught on crappie jigs or live golden shiners.


Largemouth Bass can be found lurking around structure. Bass respond well to crawdads, crankbaits, and dark colored plastics.


Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed in by a Wohlford Ranger on our scale.
