Currently we are credit/debit only no cash transactions. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must acquire them elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
The last catfish plant of the season went in yesterday around noon. The plant should result in a better than average catfish bite for the rest of the week. Elliot Berquist of Escondido caught another monster catfish, this one weighing in at 43.20#s. Mr. Berquist catfish was caught & released using mackerel in Oakvale Cove. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure or working the outskirts of the reeds. The bass prefer dark colored plastics, crawdads, and jerk-baits.
The crappie have been few and far between. Crappie generally prefer the cover of shade and are caught most frequently on finger jigs or live golden shiners.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
