Sounds like a 1/2 day trip we took where we found a school of big yellows randomly. Never seen so many people get worked on 20# in my life. I lost a couple of layers of my thumb that trip trying to stop these home guard fish from running into the kelp.

    Final count?

    (0) Yellowtail

But about 3 dozen broken off.

try 60lb won't get snapped as easy

was fishing for b,f. a week ago with a ti 130 loaded with 80
    no problems getting bit

another tip is try gathering smooth round river rocks baseball size or bigger
put out about 10ft of line past your hook and then start wrapping your line around the rock

your going to have to experiment with the number of times you wrap the rock depending on how deep you want to drop

rock size is a big factor

anyway when you meter or see breezers you drop your bait over the side on the slide

the rock will take you down like a downrigger and spin off
giving you a deep[ free swimmer with no lead ball

bigger tuna are almost always below smaller fish

learned the trick bigeye fishing around somoa from locals

    it works

the san diego killed them again today on their full day boat

about 30 on board had near 40 bfd by 11am

a few near or over 200lbs

    they hung near 150

add a few yellows and yellowfin

if you want to have the chance for a lifetime catch without sleeping in a bunk nows the time to head out

also have a friend that was fishing solo on his boat today in the same area
that caught a bft that he estimates will be near 320-340lbs he is on the way in to shelter island to weigh it

hung it this morning at about 4am had it on board a little after 1pm

got it stink bait fishing with a live barry
