    Default My Makaira Spare Spool!

Always Good to Carry an Extra Spool!

Years ago i had a Stradic 4000 spooled with braid & i always carried a Stradic 5000 spool w/monofilament. It was great to have when i went to Kauai to bowl the Hawaii State Senior Tournament years ago. That was for med/light to med/heavy whipping applications.

Now i'm fortunate to have a Makaira 10000 Spinner. On the original spool i put on 50lb Eminent Braid to a 50lb fluorocarbon top-shot. On the extra spool i went slightly heavier using 65lb Eminent Braid to a 60lb Fluoro-Stretch top-shot. On both spools i'll have enough to do some bottom jigging offshore.

This set-up is just for my personal preference only. It's a space saver carrying only 1 reel while traveling light (and saves a bit of money instead of purchasing 2 reels). I really like to add that having your own line spooler is a pinnacle of being a complete angler. I'm saving money buying bulk line spools & doing my own work. I've found using the Uni Knot held better than the Arbor Knot.

For me i use the largest Fishon Spooler for my spinning reels that Sportsman Innovations carry. I like this spooler! Comes with a lighter cord to plug into your car as well. Once you own your own spooler you can save money buying line & try out your own line combinations!
