Default Lake Wohlford press release 12/5/20

    Date: 12/5/20

    Park hours: 6:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (Closed Weekdays Open Weekends Only)
    Dock closes: 4:30 P.M.
Last Plant: 750 lbs. of Channel Catfish Friday July 31st.

Next Plant: 4,000lbs. of Rainbow Trout Saturday Dec.12th.

    Water temperature: At surface 59.00 f., 8.74 D.O. @ 10’ 59.36 f., 8.62 D.O.

Water level: Low level, private watercraft are currently banned.

Permits and boat rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We do not sell fishing licenses so anglers must acquire them elsewhere prior to their visit. Facial coverings are required when purchasing a fishing permit or when entering or exiting the boats or boat dock area. The lake is offering $20 all day motor boats to active military every Saturday.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels there is a ban on private watercraft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Trout season is just a week away! Saturday Dec. 12th is the first day of trout fishing and we will re-open seven days a week at that time. We will be closed on Christmas day. For those of you who have been gone for a while there are a few changes you will need to be aware of: 1.) Currently we are credit/debit only (no cash). 2. Prices went up. Escondido City Council voted to update the Lakes & Open Space Division’s rental and user fees. New fees are available for viewing on the city website. 3.) The fishing piers in Boat Dock Cove are closed due to public health concerns related to the ongoing Covid -19 pandemic.

Catfish can be found throughout the lake but are particularly active at the West Buoy Line. Mike Hernandez, a Wohlford regular, while out searching for a trophy bass on Sunday instead hooked into a hungry 26.90# catfish who went after his bass lure. Mike would have preferred a double digit bass, I am sure, but the catfish did earn him a free boat and permit being the largest of the month. Lake Wohlford cats are partial to shrimp, cut mackerel, and chicken liver.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.

No, I thought about it, till they didn't plant any lightning trout. I really don't engoy fishing DVL that much.

I feel the same way about DVL for trout! Lighting trout are very interesting to catch, but the way you have to fish them at DVL isn't worth it to me. I did see lake Hemet might get stocked again next week.
