Saguaro Lake, Arizona
It's been some time since I posted a report in my original stomping ground....work is slow, so why not...
Took the day off on OCT 1 and opted to head back to Sag, as we call it out here in AZ...
The plan was to fish from safelight to noon, as temps would be at 100 or so by then.
Water temp ranged from 83 to 88 by mid-day. Now, our recent history is this....a good golden algae bloom came along which decimated two lakes -- Sag and Apache Lake. Massive schools of bass were killed. Apparently, this happened before out here, I just wasn't in AZ at the time. Word is that the lakes will eventually recover. That word is true, as 3 years ago when the bloom started killing any hopes of a bass bite, that bite returned slowly but surely in late fall of last year. Presently, the bite has been solid. I favor Saguaro Lake because its the closest lake to my front door. Quick morning or afternoon sessions are pretty effort-less to pull off.
It's EASY to pattern AZ bass in the summer -- nicer models will always be DEEP. Some fish will be shallow but very rare will you hook a yak in the summer heat of AZ. So off-shore is the game.
Ended up with 15 fish....and I had to work HARD for em. Deep anomalies (like grass, brush, rock piles) that were adjacent to main points in main lake locations was the deal. Saw many boats were out deep in creeks and pockets only to get frustrated. Graphs were critical in finding bait and schools of solid fish in their summer haunts. GP Jig's with trailers tipped in orange did the job. The week before, they only wanted the drop shot in a shad pattern. Not at all on this trip. Tried some 8XD deep cranking for no love on 3-4 main points.
Last fish of the day was the biggest, a pinch over 4#s. My best 5 went for 11 pounds and change.
Headed back THU...AZ is starting to cool down, FINALLY.
