Default Lake Wohlford press release 4/6/19

    Date: 4/6/19
    Park hours: 6:00 A.M. – 7:00 P.M.* 7:30 beg.4/8 (Open seven days a week)

    Dock closes: 6:30 P.M. (7:00 beg. 4/8*)

Last Plant: 1,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout Friday April 5th.
Next Plant: 750 lbs. of Channel Catfish Friday May 10th.
    Water temperature: At surface 61.70 f., 10.44 D.O. @ 15’ 62.42 f., 10.19 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

Permit and Boat Rentals are sold at the Ranger Station. We do not sell fishing licenses, bait, or tackle, so anglers must acquire these essentials items elsewhere prior to their visit. All day motor boats are discounted to $20 for seniors (60+) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and for active military every Saturday.
Due to the threat of Quagga mussels, there is a ban on private water craft and equipment. Restricted equipment includes; private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
The final trout plant took place on Friday April 5th. The gradually warming water is pushing the trout bite west and south into deeper water accessible along steeper shores. Big fish of the week belonged to Richard Meadows of San Marcos and weighed 5.90#s. Mr. Meadow’s trout was caught on an inflated night-crawler on Senior Shoreline.
Small to medium sized bass are being reported. Largemouth Bass can be found around structure and respond well to crawdads, frog poppers, and dark colored plastics.
Crappie are moving in tight to shore and are being caught on jigs and live Golden Shiners along the southern shore.
The first catfish plant of the season is scheduled for May 10th. Catfish can be found throughout the lake and bite well on cut mackerel or chicken liver, as well as dough-bait.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.

I hope this report is a few day's old. It's say's the largest trout caught for the month of April is an #5.90. Yesterday the dock attendant told me it was an #8 pound trout. I mention this only because I weighed in an #6.8 pound trout yesterday. I would not be very happy if my trout got swept under the rug! Lol
