Default Phenix M1 Inshore ML rod application

(edited for clarification . . .) What type of baits and weight is this rod built for? I'm trying to use is to throw hardbait/swimbait from the surf. It's called and "inshore" rod. Am I using this rod incorrectly and if so what should I use it for? I have a kayak I can use it on I guess.

The rod is a spinning rod, 7'11" and rated 10-25 lb line, and 1-3 oz lures.
I have a Penn Spinfisher V 3500 (spinning reel) on it.
I spooled it up with 12# mono.

Throwing 1-3 ounces feels too heavy and like my line or rod might break, and also 1-3 oz is too much for the surf. I'm hearing to use 3/16 and 1/4 oz swimbaits and hardbaits weighing 5/8 oz which are all under the rating for the rod.

Throwing 5/8 oz hardbaits or 3/8 - 1/2 oz lead heads with swimbait tails does seem to casts good.

    Any feedback is much appreciated.
