Default Lake Casitas Fish Report February 18, 2018

    Hey guys,

Went to Casitas Sunday, got there before the sun got up. Were the first boat in the water and boy it was worth it. Rolled up on this flat and there were nice males moving around. Had 6 fish in the first hour and about 11 lbs for the best 5. Went shallow in the afternoon and put the trolling motor on high looking for any bed fish. Rolled up on a 4.5 and caught her. Total fish for the day was 11, but best 5 went for 15+. Awesome day.

Hey Mike, thanks for sharing the vid, and congrats on a great day!

Awesome 4.5 there - did you say she was being chased by another bass? How did spinning set-up hold up on that one?

    Hi lady quagga,

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. So yes to answer your first question the 4.5lb female was being followed by another bass. I found a stretch of bank that had 15 ft of water clarity and put the trolling motor on high looking for bedding fish. Usually when bass spawn they have a male that protects the bed. In this case we caught the female and he was following her up to the boat.

The rod/reel combo was a gloomis mix pro spinning rod 6’8 medium with a shimano NASCI Spinning reel which is about $100 on tackle warehouse. Great value for this reel. 6lb floro held up keep the drag somewhat loose.

Looks like the Spring spawn is already here. Heard of reports of fish pushing up already in various lakes.

Did I miss something? Has Lake Casitas stopped the quarantine requirements on Private boats?

No it is still 30 days after you pass inspection. Cannot launch elsewhere
