Permits and Boat Rentals are now issued by a machine located at the Ranger Station. The machine can take cash (no $50 or $100 bills), debit, or credit. Please take note; we do not sell fishing licenses, bait, or tackle, so anglers must acquire these essentials elsewhere prior to their visit. The lake is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesday and Thursdays and to active military every Saturday.
The second of three consecutive trout plants went in Wednesday. There was a tie for big fish of the week. Ronnie Wooward caught a seven-pound trout Sunday on a night-crawler in Oakvale Cove. Tuesday James Black caught a seven pounder of his own using scented powerbait on Senior Shoreline. The trout have been responsive to top water lures, and fly fishing, as well as the usual floating baits.
Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. Chris Reyna caught and released a 6.20# bass using a creature bait at Twin Peaks. The bass hit on swimbaits, poppers, crawdads, and dark colored plastics.
Crappie are being caught in small numbers. Crappie are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners. They bite best in the early morning before the sun rises and prefer the cover of shade.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
