Thread: Mind is Noisy?

  1. #1

    Default Mind is Noisy?

I've been having this thing lately. My mind gets so "noisy". I don't hear voices or anything but my thoughts just zoom through my mind. And I can't focus much on any of them. It's like flipping through channels on TV every couple of seconds. I'm a mess. Am I going insane? What is this? Am I sick?

I first want to say, "I love the name Althea Hamby." (It sounds rather English.) I came up with a theory years ago that answer's your question about how people's mind works. (I know I'm going to lose a lot of people on this one) lol

Everyone is given 100 chips of Brain capacity and you can spend them any way you want too! Some people want to concentrate on single subjects and spend most of them all there. The problem is, "they didn't leave many chips to spend on other things." I'll use my father as an example as not to offend anyone on this board. He was a History & Political science teacher for 30 years in a local community college. So he spent 90% of his chips learning the History of Mankind. (he is Jeopardy smart when it comes to that subject) The problem is, "that only leaves 10% of his chips for every thing else." To see him struggle doing every day things is quite amusing!!!

Althea, what you're trying to do is exceed your 100 chips of Brain capacity!!! That's why you can't focus on much of any of them. So you need to prioritize the more important things to do and concentrate on them.

I know I lost a lot of people with that thought. So I'll give it in my favorite fishing example, "NOT TYING!!" I know 3 knot's and I use 1 of them 99% of the time!!! My friend Glenn knows a dozen knots or more. He keeps trying to teach them to me and I refuse to learn them. Why???? Because I don't want to waste some of my chips (Brain capacity) on knots when I can get by with what I already know!!! I would rather spend my chips on where the next great fishing opportunity is going to be!!! I really do spend a lot of time handicapping fishing. Because I want every trip to count!!!

And much like in Las Vegas, some people's chips are white ($1), and some of them are black. ($100) So while each individual has the same number of chips, the net worth of those chips is a biiiiiit disparate amongst everyone in the casino.

And much like in Las Vegas, you're not guaranteed to be left with your 100 chips at the end of the night.

Another theory is that we of a certain age have filled our brains such that things rattle around as there is no room.LOL

I've long wished I had an off switch in the brain and also that brains allowed for file maintenance, toss out the crap that's no longer needed to save disk space for the important stuff I can't remember.

Yep some of those of us of a certain age are screwed, the good news is this affliction is handy when you "accidentally" forget to do the honey do's.

I know 2 fishing knots, Eric. After my line breaks with one knot, I go to the other. LOL Oh, I teach at a community college too, but I teach psychology. It makes sense that your dad taught politics related topics. I think you have learned a lot from him. ;) Finals are coming up by the way.

Forgetting stuff is a normal part of mental maintenance, but if you cannot focus, there may be something wrong, perhaps anxieties or lack of selective attention, seriously.
