Once while fishing for bass at Legg Lake middle lake,I was walking the shore line and something that was lying near the shore got spooked and swam back into the lake,I saw it pretty well and all I can describe it has,was something like an otter like animal,or beaver like, something along those lines, first thing I did was look around for someone so I could say,did you see that!

    Cya Tuna Vic
Hmmm... probably an exotic fish. I have seen people throw bull frogs into the lake and resident raccoons making their rounds. Oh and the flowerhorn was at North lake. This was over a decade ago now.

I saw a couple of small Peacock Bass in Taiwan. These are very pretty, bass-like cichlids from South America. Other comments are correct that they would almost certainly not survive the winter around here, though. I wonder how a 2 pounder got into fairmount. Cichlids like these even have die-offs in places like Taiwan or south Florida when the weather gets cold.

I have never seen any of the exotic fish mentioned in this region, but I have never been around when the aliens land, either. LOL

"Yeah dogg! I got a new fish tank bro, I want something SUPER COOL to stock in there, you know, for the 'Gram."

"Well, what are you going to put in there?"

"Well, I'm a fisherman, dogg, and on Fox Sports I saw an episode of dudes catching Peacock Bass from the Amazon..."

"OK, so...those fish grow big...and your tank is 40 gallons."

    "SO!? Peacock bass bro!!!"
    *high five* "Pass the Monster!!"

    *5 months later*

"So what happened to your Peacock Bass, bro?"

"Yeah...well...you know where Fairmount Park is, right?"

    *END SCENE*

Although not surprising considering our city ponds have always been a dumping spot for inexperienced/irresponsible aquarists.

And hey, now you don't have to travel all the way to Brazil (or Florida) to catch a peacock.

I remember landing a 24 inch Silver Arowana and a small redtail catfish from Echo Park as a kid. That's as Amazonian as you can get!
    No, you didn't. :D

Just like I didn't get some piranha from someone I know......

I am more interested in this "White Bass" I have heard much about. NO, I am not being racial. But it was like fishing Piru, I was catching "different largemouth". Why??

Drive up to Lake Nacimiento. You can fill up an entire rental boat worth of those things. No White Bass around these parts.

Peacock bass grow really fast up to 2-3 pounds, according to this site. I doubted that a smaller, aquarium fish could grow to 2 pounds over the course of a summer, but it looks like perhaps they can. http://www.peacockbassassociation.co...****_bass.html

Yeah, feed 'em enough feeders and they'll get big.

And that's how they end up in Fairmount.

Now, piranhas....they also grow big quick.
