Default 39lb striper while drop shotting

I was fishing the river we live on today, TN river at the 411 bridge. We have alot of kentucky spots in the lake, river, whatever you wanna call it, and I do well on the drop shot. I was getting fish at the 40-50 ft level off the bridge pilings. Made a drop, got nothing, started burning the rig back to the boat and just got drilled halfway back. Fish did a run like a yellowtail. Nearly bottomed out my stadic. After several long runs and a good 10 min later, it came up. It died while it was in the net. Never thrashed around or anything. I think it was due to the fight and the 80 degree surface temp. I was really bummed it died. I never like keeping big fish and this one was a brutal fight. Anyhow, I never would have thought I would get a fish like this on the drop shot.

    Fish tacos tonight!

Were you using 6#? I can only imagine the fight that beast gave on the light line.
