    Happy PaPa’s Day
What a difference a week makes. Nineteen degrees with the windchill last week – 86 degrees this weekend and with the increase in temps – there is water all over the place. There are about 6 new creeks pouring water into the Lake and with that SCE has shut us down to one pipe so the water is coming up about 3 feet in a 24 hour period.

With all the water coming down, the North Lake Rd is currently closed due to runoff related damage. Inyo County Road Department is assessing the damage, and will have it open as soon as repairs can be made. We will keep you up to date! That means the North Lake CampGround is now closed.

The trail leading up into the Sabrina Basin at the George Creek Crossing is just downright dangerous as is the Tyee Creek Crossing when hiking from the South Lake Road up to the Tyee Lakes. Please be extremely caution when crossing any creek crossing. If you must hike it is not advisable to take children.

We got BIG fish from Desert Springs Trout Farm. The first load of trophy Trout from Desert Springs in Oregon were stocked Friday just in time for Father's Day. Parchers staffer JD got to ride along and help stock these beautiful rainbows all around the canyon with the rest of the crew taking pictures and videos. Lake Sabrina, Intake 2, Cardinal Pond, Ron's pond, Weir Pond, South Lake and both forks of Bishop Creek all got stocked. Big thanks to the Bishop Chamber of Commerce, Parchers Resort and South Lake, Creekside RV Park, Cardinal Village, Lake Sabrina Boat Landing and Bishop Creek Lodge for making this happen. A huge thank you to Jared at Parchers Resort for making all the arrangements.

With all the fish planted last week, awesome weather and a quarter moon, catching really picked up. With all the new inlets, take your pick and spread out! NightCrawlers, PowerBait and Jigs are working at all the Inlets. Trolling KastMasters or a Red & Gold Thomas Buoyant or just a plain old NightCrawler (don’t forget the swivel). Shore fishing with PowerBait or NightCrawlers. Drifting a NightCrawler around the rockpiles or thru the channels. If you have questions about your set-up, please come in and ask!

Joe Martinez and Justin Jordan both hooked into 5-1/4 pound fish using Kraken jigs. Jennifer Godinho caught her 2-1/4 lbs. fish using a Gold KastMaster. Sam Rose, Piper Graber, Jack Reckinger (he caught the 3-pounder on a Brown Mini-Jig) and Natalie Blackwelder had a grand time making memories! Rith Bau caught his 3-1/2 pounder on a GrassHopper Jig.

Looks like we have a chance of ThunderBoomers thru Thursday – so pack your ponchos! Temps remain warm and are forecast to be in the 70s varying from the uppers to the lowers and dropping to the upper 60s over the weekend. The lowers look to be hovering a few degrees below or above 50 degrees. Check www.weather.gov – enter Aspendell, CA, in the search field and scroll down a bit.

    Summer Solstice Party
The Bishop Chamber of Commerce has heard from many retailers and restaurants that would like to have an event to bring more shoppers and diners out in the evening. On Friday, June 23rd, the chamber will host the SUMMER SOLSTICE DOWNTOWN PARTY. They're hopeful everyone will join in the fun! All local restaurants and shops are encouraged to stay open until 9pm and offer something special such as product demonstrations, discounts, food samples and live entertainment. The Bishop Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a raffle to win a $250 shopping spree at the chamber-member business of the winner's choice.

Important stuff that just stays in the report for a bit:

ALWAYS BRING A JACKET TO THE LAKE!

Watch out for Deer – especially during dawn and dusk.

The Lake has been low due to a concern for flooding in the Valley. The Powers-to-Be are trying to spread the water over the valley floor to replenish the aquifer and to minimize flooding when the run-off really gets going. Remember, too, we are a reservoir - we always start low in the spring as SCE uses water during the winter to produce electricity thru their hydro-plants and there is only snow falling. As we warm up, the run-off begins and the Lake starts to fill. We are usually at capacity at the beginning of July and stay at capacity during August. Once the run-off winds down, the Lake level starts to lower - and the water cycle of the Lake begins again. Hope this gives some insight on why there is so little water in the Lake. 😀

If you catch a big fish or a limit just to have your picture taken for the webpage and then try and give your fish away – we won’t post your picture, but then again we may post it as ‘WASTER OF A PERFECTLY GOOD FISH TO EAT’! Crimp down your barbs, take a picture on the boat and release it for another day.

If you’re hiking stay safe out there. Remember to leave a note about your destination and approximate return time and a clothing description. And you might want to hike with a buddy!

When using the bug juice, try not to get it on your hands – you’ll transfer it to your bait and the fish just don’t like bug juice or sunscreen or lotion or cologne or perfume. Wash your hands in the stream or Lake to get it off, and then use some fish attractant on your hands.

Make sure you wear some kind of sun protection – the sun and reflection off the water will do a number on your skin and eyeballs!

Some new faces with us this year.

    Safe travels.

Juanita, Rick, Patti, Len, Ginny, Dwayne, Jamin & Wade
