As recently as 2013, the bite on the East Fork wasn't bad. Lots of natives in there. Then in 2014, the bite just shut off! In addition to the drought, I think that the increase in gold miners up there have wiped out what was a productive native trout fishery.

Here's a nice 6-incher native that fell for a stimulator fly caught back in December 2013.

Yep, basically same timeline for me on the East Fork. The number of folks camping-long-term and mining back there seems to have increased as well.

The North Fork surprisingly continued to hold pockets of fish until that entire area was wiped out in the Cabin Fire in Aug 2015.

I know that during the fires (Like the Station Fire) in the canyon, fire crews were escorted by LE and not allowed past Fellows Camp without LE escort. With the long term squatters, no doubt some fish depredation. Forest Service does not have enough LEO's to enforce squatting and mining laws. Nothing new....Here is an article from 1997 : https://www.outsideonline.com/1842221/dark-behind-it-rose-forest

    It is real nice there.

Some envirnomentalist complain that the trout stocking led to the trout eating some tad poles or a frog species
that was on the decline so they stopped stocking.

How sad that is they care about the frogs instead of the great fishing experience it brought to the humans.

I missed it up there a nice spot to hang out for the day and not that far of a drive.

It is a more enjoyable experience in the rivers than the pay lakes.
