Thread: Trout Opener report

    Default Trout Opener report

Took off around 11 PM on Thursday night. Got into Lone Pine and had an early breakfast. We had decided to fish the sand trap and wait for my hunting buddies to arrive. The sand trap was fairly productive. Had to wait until the sun came up before the fish went on the chew. C&R many fish. Mostly power worms and PB
Headed up the creek to some of my hotspots, I was playing guide to 6 novice anglers. I put them on the fish, the couldnt seal the deal. Went up to Lone Pine campground. The creek was loaded with fish, just had lock jaw. I have has this happen several times on the creek. Not sure what causes this. I got tired of watching, so I grabbed my rod and proceeded to show them how to catch fish. ALL C&R
    Nothing of size

    Opener
Started at Intake II. I met up with my family and friends (another group of Novice anglers) Bite was steady for those tht could cast 50 feet. The others struggled> Took off and headed to Bishop South Fork. My first 2 spots were occupied. Hit spot 3. I tolf them how to catch the fish and got some much needed sleep (all 30 minutes) They couldnt catch these fish to they went back to camp to sleep. I nailed 15 fish on about 25 minutes and decided I was bored and needed to get some food from camp.
Fished around camp, Four Jefferys and picked off a few

Went up to Lake Sabrina for afternoon bite. First 4 casts resulted in fish (all on PB) Hung around until 330 PM and decided I would head home

    weather was AWESOME
Fishing was OK: THe average fish was around 8". very small.
Not sure why the fish were so much smaller this year. I wonder if anyone else noticed this.

Hi light of the trip was seeing the herd of ELK just South of Big Pine on the way home.

Nice report bro.....I did notice that the first DFG stocking had a lot of fish that were a bit smaller than usual, although I haven't seen many that were 8", most are about 10". You just can't ask for better weather than we've had this weekend....gotta love it.

Just got back myself, Fished owens river, Rock creek, convict, Twinlakes mammoth.

Owens was slow, Heard crowly was slow again this year for a lot of people. Rock creek up by the eastern fork was producing, salmon eggs and misc beed head flys. Convict produced opening day but today (sunday) was dead. I fished Twin saturday morning, 5th cast i caught this bad boy.

Everything we caught was C&R (wifey and myself)

I went to Lone Pine Creek as well on Friday. Plenty of fish , but as you said, they were smaller than usually. All in all it was still a fun day though. Took my 5 year old daughter with me for a short day trip after she got out of school. She caught 5 all by herself; baited, casted, and reeled them in. Starting them young!

all was good till some old a-hole started lecturing me because he stated the creek "was too dangerouse for children, and people like me should not be able to have children." The situation grew a little heated after I stated, "you're right sir, this ankle deep water is real dangerous." Gave him a quick finger behind my back (to make sure my "endangered" daughter didnt see it) as I was walking away, and continued down stream.

Maybe they were a bit more than 8" but not very impressive. I can assure you that these are no trophy trout. I did land some that were 8". I would much rather tell you that they were all 14-16" brutes.
Sorry I didnt make it by. I had to play camp host to the newbies. Not much time to get out. I did run into FearNoTrout (Cori) at the tackle shop in Bishop. He was very busy.
