Thread: Second Drag Reel

    Default Second Drag Reel

After reading many posts I have noticed a lot of people saying a second drag reel is good to use for light biting fish. What is a second drag reel?

By "Second Drag Reel" I believe you're talking about bait-feeder reels. This basically a reel with two drags, usually interchangeable by a lever or switch. It has a rear, lighter drag for bait and wait and a frontal heavier drag for fighting fish. Some of these include the Cabelas Salt Striker bait-feeder which is my personal favorite because of the torque it offers and the Okuma Trio bait-feeder. Also these reels automatically revert to the frontal drag when you start reeling. Hope this helps, Tight Lines.

Shimano makes the same sort of reel called The Baitrunner. Might want to check it out.
