Default The Trout are Banging at Lake Wohlford

It seems fish reports here on FNN are a little few and far between right now. No matter, let me try to set a positive example by writing a few. lol I've got 5 different fishing destinations on my radar for the next couple of months. But I will go for the ones that seem to have the greater chance for success. (Fishing is ok but catching is great!!!) Just like in the fairy tale Snow White, the vain person said, "Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the fairest one of all!!!" By reading the Press release, "Lake Wohlford is the fairest one of all!!!" 3,000 lbs of hard fighting Nebraska Tail Walkers are to be stocked on Wed Jan 4 2016. Since I've already been there a couple of times this season, that was going to be an easy choice.

For this adventure I've got 3 companions who want to go. 2 of the 3 people wanted to go because I've said some pretty nice things about the lake. (so I had a little pressure on me to produce) Glenn is my fishing partner, so more or less where ever I go I can always count him in. The only problem with Glenn is, he fishes so much and in such great places he's a little lackadaisical on these small adventures. For me I still have eye of the Tiger even on these little excursions. Since there is 4 of us going we going to need 2 boats to fish on. Of course I will assume pirate captain on 1 boat but Glenn will be running the other boat because the other 2 people have never been to the lake before. Do I trust Glenn to do a good job running the boat???? No!!!!!!!! So for this adventure I must become "ADMIRAL" etucker!!!! (by definition an Admiral controls 2 or more vessels at the same time) To do this I started the day before. I took Glenn to one of my favorite Tackle stores to make sure he had all the right stuff. (it didn't help he was pretty drunk when I picked him up) So talking over strategy the day before was a little tough. I did come up with a pretty in genius idea to do while we were fishing. (walkie talkies)

    On to the fishing!!!!

In my 2 previous trips this year to lake Wohlford, I learned about an area by the East Buoys that seem to be holding fish all the time. It's a medium size area, so the only good way to fish it is to make drifts about 200 yards at a time. Just imagine a Box with boundary's on a map. Stay in the box and you're in a fishy area the whole time. Stray out of the box, you're in a desert with no fish in it!!!! I've got the hot bait color and smell all figured out. (anything Orange with Garlic and Sardine smell smeared all over it) Stay in the box and drift and you will be catching fish all day!!!

The plan is to start drifting in the box and call off your hookups on the Walkie Talkies confirming what you got bit on. It started off good for us with a hook up on my first cast. A beautiful 3.5 lbs Tail Walker that ate the Orange Gulp power bait dipped in Garlic and smeared with Sardine paste. In short order we had 3 more hook ups all on the Orange Gulp. (all beautiful fish 3-4 lbs Tail Walkers every one of them!!!) I'm on the Walkie Talkie asking Glenn why aren't you bit yet???? Their biting the Orange Gulp like there is no tomorrow!!!!! He answer's kinda sheepishly because I left the Orange Pulp power bait at home. I said, "you're screwing with me right???" Glenn say's "NOPE!!!!" At that moment in time I became Admiral Blye!!!! He wasn't just messing up his good time but other peoples too!!!! So I told him firmly to get his boat over to the area where we were fishing. Thank God his companion is a very good fishermen in his own rights. He banged 3 fish really quick and one was a really nice one!!! (a good 4-5 pounder) My partner started banging them pretty good by now too!!! The only one who didn't have a fish yet was Glenn!!! Nobody can stay down forever, since they were now fishing in the box even Glenn caught a couple of pretty good ones. We were closing in on our limits by now so I really wanted Glenn and company to get theirs too. We made a drift right in the main channel and BANG we were done!!!! We had at least a 35 pound double limit for the 2 of us. By then I rounded up Glenn and company and gave them my left over good bait and instructions exactly where the best concentration of fish were. I'd be shocked if they didn't get their limits!!!! We were back at the boat dock by noon heading home from another great adventure!!!

    Thanks for reading my story.

PS. I talked to Glenn today to find out how they ended up at the end of their day. They were off the water at 1:30 pm with full limits of Trout!!! As I hinted in the fish report, "Failure was not an option!!!" lol

I thought our stocked trout in our state now were triploids, which means by definition they cannot bang?

It's a very good lake once you learn it. The quality of the fish their stocking and the price is incredible!!!! (wondering how they can do it???) $7 dollars for a permit and $35 for an all day motor boat rental. Not counting Senior special days and price. I heard a rumor I'm going to check out, that one of the Casino's is sponsoring the lake. (that's just a rumor) If that was the case that makes sense!!!!
