(that's understandable) But the numbers so far this season at Lake Wohlford are, "they giving away too much fish for too little money." A pay lake usually stocks 1-2 lbers plus a few trophy fish. Wohlford stocks 2-4 pound fish plus a few trophy's. Compare the costs of a typical pay lake for a family of 3 fishing in a boat. The pay lake will charge $28 dollars a person plus $50 for a motor boat. That adds up to $134 for a family of 3 to fish there plus boat. Lake Wohlford charges $7 per person to fish plus $35 for an all day motor boat. For a totally cost of $56 per family to catch fish twice the size of the pay lake fish. It's true they don't stock every week, but so far they only missed 1 week in stocking trout since their trout season started Dec 11. (just make sure you pick the weeks they stock) lol That doesn't even count once you caught your limit of trout, you can fish for the other species they have in there. (you do need a fishing license) But you do get DFW stockings too!!! lol That was meant to be a joke!!! Yes they do stock trout but those fish are a joke in comparison to the Tail Walkers.
Can't you say the same about Dixon and Poway lakes.

I did not know that they received any trout stockings but really doesn't matter about sterile or not, no chance for reproduction. I am all for doing away with the BS sterile fish idea, at least the way the DFW applies it to all stocking in Cali.. I think areas like Crowley lake where a very robust spawn takes place are going to be affected by it. The tributaries might suffer due to no "desire" to head up creek and eventually the natural reproduction will cease to exist. I miss seeing the fish flying up stream even at Silverwood, spawns going up Miller and the Mohave I just don't see happening anymore and this year would have had great conditions for a spawn.

I've never fished Poway so I can't comment on that lake. There is a few minor differences in Dixon and Wohlford. At Wohlford you do need a fishing license and at Dixon you don't. At Wohlford you can C&R but at Dixon you can't. At Dixon they charge $2 more for a 2nd rod permit. At Wohlford they don't. On the weekends at Dixon they do charge a parking fee at Wohlford they don't. As I stated earlier the DFW does make small trout stockings at Wohlford at Dixon they don't. In the end I'm not sure which lake will get more fish but it will be close. They are closely run similar but not quite exactly.

Lake Wohlford is maintained and operated by the City of Escondido - it is not privately owned and thus operating at a loss is within the City's budget. Dixon is the same and Poway is maintained by City of Poway. SD county does not have any lakes comparable to how Corona and Irvine were operated.
