The parents came out for a vacation and visit from Colorado.
After a very successful day at Perris searching for big 'gills, we headed out to the ocean for a day.

We launched at newport at about 7am and stopped at the bait dock on the way out... unfortunately no frozen squid and the sardines were huge--9" for most of them... we got a 1/2 scoop and headed out.

Once past the jetty, we turned south and started trolling toward the kelp north of laguna. On the way, my mom and I hooked up on two small bonito -- like 12" -14" long. Pretty fun on rapalas.

We stopped at a few kelp beds and didn't find much happenin. After a few hours of poking around, we trolled back north headed for newport artificial reef. We hooked up on a few macks but nothing great.

Newport produced squat.

Moved on to HB art reef. My pops hit on 3 keeper sheephead.

Eventually, we just bobbed around and watched the Huntington Beach airshow dress rehersal... now that was COOL! So fun sitting under those pilots doing their thing.

Fun times!
