Thread: Pinyon Pine Nut Question/ Drought

Default Pinyon Pine Nut Question/ Drought

Tried to collect pine nuts around Frazier Park last weekend. Hit a few spots but all the nuts were dried out. Even the ones in green cones were tiny and hard as rock/ completely hollow inside the shell.

I'm wondering if anyone here has collected pine nuts the past few years. Either in Frazier or Mammoth. I saw zero Pinyon Pine saplings < 5 years old. Is it because of the drought?

.you might be better off just buying some....i worked on a ranch in western new mexico and there the harvested them by the tons and shipped them everywhere across the west.........ancient native type of survival food..........

Well you know how it goes: not about the fish, it's about the fishing.
