City Family and friends were craving some tempura rockfish for Sunday dinner, so City Girl and I were happy to do the shopping.
Ended up on the New Del Mar out of Marina Del Ray when we found our other choices either chartered or closed for the Long Beach Marathon.
Never been on that boat before and CG was rolling her eyes when she saw a passenger load of mostly newbs.
This dude was great! this is after a full day of bottom fishing - the filthiest leisure activity there is. I thought it was pretty impressive. You can't really see, but he was also rocking knee-high patent leather riding boots - not so easy to keep shiny amid the slime and gore of a fishing deck - and he boarded that morning topped with a smart, black Sherlock Holmes cape
I reminded CG that she too was once a tangle foot farmer and patience is a virtue. Turned out to be a pretty dang good trip.
Dropped strip squid and anchovies in about 200 feet. Macs were a headache. but bite good and decent quality.
CG is getting real good at pinning on anchovies.
Came home with a nice sack of widow, vermilion and starry rockfish. CG got her limit and stuck this salmon grouper.
Good times, nice crew and the first all-metal boat we'd ever been on.
grilled and fried half our catch to the delight of all our guest (except our vegan friend who had hummus and salad.)
CG shaping up to be an outstanding fishing partner.
